Amines Group

Function:

  • Help to form emulsions by reducing the surface tension of the substances to be emulsified so that water-soluble and oil-soluble ingredients can be blended together.
  • Control the pH of cosmetics and personal care products.
  • Surfactants and hair- or skin-conditioning agents. Ethanolamine functions as a pH adjuster.
  • Salts function as surfactants; some of the ethanolamine salts function as pH adjusters, hair fixatives, or preservatives.

Chelating Agents

Function:

  • Bind with metal ions or metallic compounds, preventing contamination or discoloration.
  • Improve the efficacy of preservatives and antioxidants and play a crucial role in the stability and efficacy of personal skin care products.

– Disodium EDTA (EDTA 2Na) is used in neutral to mildly acidic products
– Tetrasodium EDTA(EDTA 4 Na) is recommended for alkaline products

Emulsifiers

Function: Emulsifier includes any ingredient that helps keep unlike ingredients (such as oil and water) from separating in an emulsion

Essential Oils

Function:

  • Used in aromatherapy, a form of alternative medicine that employs plant extracts to support health and well-being. Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants.

Preservatives

Function: 

  • Prevent product damage caused by microorganisms and to protect the product from inadvertent contamination by the consumer during use.
  • An ingredient that protects the product from the growth of microorganisms is called an antimicrobial.
